I combine writing, publishing and digital experience to help ideas reach an audience.

I am an author, ghostwriter, publisher and award-winning content creator based in Bristol. My work brings together more than 25 years of experience in writing, digital publishing, audience development and creating content for specialist subjects.

Writing is only one part of bringing a book to life.

A strong idea still needs to be developed, structured and communicated clearly. A finished manuscript needs editing, formatting and preparing for publication. Once the book is available, it still needs to find the readers who will value it.

My work combines the creative side of writing with the practical side of publishing. I can help shape an initial idea, develop or ghostwrite the manuscript, prepare the finished book and support its publication, promotion and audiobook production.

Because I also have a long background in websites, digital media and audience development, I understand how a book can form part of a wider project. That might include a website, an established brand, a research archive, a podcast, a course or a community built around a specialist subject.

My experience includes

  • More than 25 years creating websites and publishing content online
  • Ten years working professionally in digital media for commercial radio
  • Ten years running my own digital publishing business
  • Writing, publishing and promoting books across print, digital and audio
  • Building specialist audiences through editorial, video and interactive content

From early websites to an independent publishing business.

My career has developed across writing, radio, web development, filmmaking and digital publishing, but the common thread has always been finding effective ways to tell stories and share specialist knowledge.

Early digital publishing

I began creating websites and publishing online in the early days of the web, initially through personal projects and blogs. That experience taught me how strong ideas, useful content and an understanding of the audience work together.

Commercial radio

I spent a decade working professionally in digital media for commercial radio, including roles in London for one of Europe's largest radio groups. My work covered editorial strategy, websites, campaigns, brand development and audience engagement.

Independent publishing

For the past ten years, I have worked full-time on my own digital publishing business, producing books, articles, films, videos, courses and interactive projects for specialist audiences.

Building specialist projects from the ground up.

I am the founder of Higgypop, a website covering paranormal subjects, unusual history and related areas of research. What began as an independent website grew into a substantial digital publishing platform reaching a large international audience.

I have also developed other publishing and educational projects, including Paralearning, an online course platform, and Project Weird, an independent imprint through which I publish specialist books and creative projects.

Rather than relying entirely on off-the-shelf systems, I have built many of the platforms behind these projects myself. This has allowed me to combine editorial thinking with custom publishing tools, databases, interactive content and audience-focused design.

Experience across specialist non-fiction and personal stories.

I have written and published books covering paranormal investigation, unusual history, hidden places and other specialist subjects. My own titles include works developed from original research, practical experience and long-running editorial projects.

I have also worked collaboratively with other authors, helping them organise their knowledge, research and experiences into accessible books. Some projects begin with a manuscript, while others begin with interviews, notes, recordings or conversations.

Whatever the starting point, the aim is always to produce a book that is clear, engaging and true to the person behind it.

A collaborative and practical approach.

Every project is different, but the way I work is built around understanding what you want to achieve and finding the most sensible route towards it.

01

Understanding the project

We begin by discussing your idea, your audience, the material you already have and what you want the finished book to achieve.

02

Finding the right structure

I help identify the clearest way to organise the subject, whether the material comes from research, memories, interviews or an existing draft.

03

Keeping your voice

The aim is not to make every book sound like me. It is to make your ideas clear and readable while ensuring the finished work still feels like yours.

04

Taking it through to publication

When required, I can continue beyond the manuscript and help with formatting, publishing, marketing, websites and audiobook production.

Every book starts with a conversation.

Tell me what you are working on, what material you already have and where you would like the project to go. I will get back to you with some initial thoughts and the most sensible next step.
